THE MARKET’S FOURTH SEASON
February 8-17, 2019
by Thornton Wilder
Directed by Robert Fuson
Winner! 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama
“…the greatest American play ever written.” – Edward Albee
The Stage Manager guides audiences through a small New England town in the early 1900s, as its inhabitants grow up, get married and discover the beauty of life. Life was simpler then, to be sure. But Wilder's Our Town is more, much more, than a nostalgic look at an earlier time, for Grover's Corner is also our own town, our own life. With poetic beauty and simplicity, Our Town illuminates the powerful bonds that hold communities together through everyday life and moments of crisis. With humor, wit, and exceptionally powerful storytelling, Wilder delivers universal truths about what it means to be human and encourages us to live life to its fullest.
Robert Fuson is an award winning director recognized by the South Carolina Theatre Association and Southeastern Theatre Conference for his work as director of I Am My Own Wife by the Proud Mary Theatre Company. Robert makes his Anderson debut with Our Town.

Shakespeare in the park has become a summer staple for downtown Anderson, bringing thousands to Carolina Wren Park each summer. Thanks to generous support from the City of Anderson, the project continues, now as part of The Market's season. The Adventures of Pericles is an epic journey featuring myth, magic, and adventure. One storm at sea brings love, and another takes it away. Pericles, Prince of Tyre is a fairytale hero who journeys to find reunion, redemption, and renewal in one of Shakespeare's later, lesser known works. A delight for the eye and ear, The Adventures of Pericles has recently moved into the spotlight thanks to the acclaimed Stratford Festival production in Stratford, Ontario. Now, the epic, mythical adventure makes its way to Carolina Wren Park!
David Larson and Diane Lee return to mount this annual community sensation, bringing to life a Shakespeare story rarely told, but not soon forgotten.

But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend, the mysterious and quirky stranger JD, who plans to put the Heathers in their place – six feet under. Deliciously, darkly funny, romantic and moving, Heathers: The Musical is a truthful, uplifting parable for anyone who’s ever been in love, in trouble, or in high school. One of our most requested shows, Heathers is hilarious, heartfelt, and homicidal, offering an unflinching look at the joys and anguish of high school.
Christopher Rose returns to direct at The Market after his acclaimed productions of Cabaret, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Julius Caesar.
THE 6TH ANNUAL 24 HOUR MUSICAL
August 10, 2019 at Anderson University
Directed by Drew Whitley
Each summer, the 24 Hour Musical brings together a diverse group of theatre artists and volunteers from around the Upstate with the goal of producing a full-scale, Broadway-style musical production... in only 24 hours! We believe that theatre can (and should!) be used to make a difference in our world and in our community. Admission to the show is free, with all donations going directly to a local charity partner.
Past productions have raised nearly $15,000 for charities such as the Anderson Free Clinic, Cancer Association of Anderson, Meals on Wheels, the Developmental Center for Exceptional Children, and the Anderson County Foster Parents Association.
Founded in 2014 by Noah and Carlie Taylor, before The Market even existed, we are excited to finally bring 24 Hour Musical and The Market under one roof. Instead of operating as a distinct non-profit organization, the 24 Hour Musical (along with Shakespeare in the Park) will now be produced annually by The Market.
