Know Before You Go: Your Matilda Plans

Here’s everything you need to know before you arrive at Matilda the Musical!

Where is Market Theatre?

Haven’t been to Market Theatre before? We are located in the Anderson Arts Center (map) on the lower level side of the building which faces Murray Avenue.

Are masks required?

Masks are optional. Because Anderson County is in the “low” community level designation per the CDC COVID-19 County Check, masks are optional at this time. Per CDC recommendation, we will only adjust this policy if the Anderson County community level shifts to “high”.

Where do I park?

Our home at the Anderson Arts Center has ample parking, including: the Anderson Arts Center lot, the Federal Street lot, and the Farmer’s Market lot.

On Saturday evening (March 26), please allow extra time for arrival and parking. There are multiple events taking place at the Anderson Arts Center and the Farmers Market, so parking will be limited. There will also be increased traffic within our building on Saturday evening. Free parking is also available via downtown parking garages and street parking; plan extra time for parking and/or walking.

Where are restrooms located?

At this time, the men’s restroom on the lower level of the Anderson Arts Center (where the Market Theatre is located) is out of order due to damage and repairs that are beyond our control. Men are asked to use the upstairs restroom. We also have a private accessible restroom on the lower level for any men with accessibility needs. Please follow signage or see a staff member/volunteer for guidance.

What about wheelchair and accessible seating?

If anyone in your party requires accessible seating, please let us know in advance (as soon as possible) by emailing hello@themarketanderson.org. We have plenty of accessible seats, but we do need advance notice in order to prepare!

Did you know?

Matilda was first a children’s novel published in 1988 by Roald Dahl (author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
It was adapted into a 1996 film (directed by and starring Danny DeVito, also starring Mara Wilson in the title role).
Matilda was then adapted into a 2010 musical which landed on Broadway in 2013.

How long is Matilda?

The show is 2.5 hours including a 15-minute intermission.

Can I exchange my tickets?

Yes, we are happy to exchange your tickets to another performance of Matilda if availability allows. Contact boxoffice@themarketanderson.org.

Are food and drinks available at the show?
Can I bring my own?

Outside food and drink are not allowed. Our concession stand is staffed by our friends at Growler Haus serving sodas, water, craft beer, and wine. We also serve theatre popcorn, CocoBon Chocolatiers’ gourmet popcorn, kids candy favorites, and Pound Cake Cups from The Pound Cake Man—including a “chocolate chocolate chip” flavor inspired by Matilda!

If the show is sold out, can my friends get tickets?

Many performances are already sold out. Beginning 1 hour before showtime, we will offer a Wait List at the Box Office and put their name on a waitlist. If tickets become available, they will be sold to the waitlist patrons in the order they arrived.

Can I learn more about the cast and crew?

Yes! You’ll receive a show program when you arrive, but for even. more interesting info (director’s note, bios, etc.) you can view the digital show program. (Content will be available at this link starting Friday evening, March 25!)
