2024 Camp Assistants (High School) [CLOSED]

All the fun of summer camp plus the opportunity to develop crucial leadership skills!

Under the leadership of the Camp Director, Camp Admin and Team Leaders, the Assistants will:

  • demonstrate positive attitudes, healthy participation, and skill development;

  • serve as a positive and wholesome role model to all campers and staff;

  • be committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of day campers;

  • help create an environment that promotes belonging, achievement and relationships.


HOW DOES THE MARKET THEATRE SUMMER CAMP TEAM WORK?

Pay:

  • Rate:

    • $200 per week (30 hours*)

      OR

    • free enrollment in a Market teen camp + $50 stipend

  • Staff are paid at the end of the camp week

    *(plus minimal required prep/training time)

Responsibilities

  • Aid Camp Production Team and Camp Staff with program participant supervision, never to be alone with program participants or left as the sole supervision for children.

  • Aid in various program areas (ie. music, crafts, outdoor play, lunch, dance, games).

  • Positively influence camper behavior and growth primarily through mentorship, some examples of which include:

    • serving as an example of expectations

    • finding common ground or shared interests with campers

    • expressing understanding and compassion to campers’ concerns

    • providing guidance through friendship

    • bridging the gap between Staff and campers by serving as both peer and leader.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from behavior that will affect the camper/staff morale.

  • Aid Camp Production Team and Camp Staff in maintaining program participant belongings in an orderly and clean fashion.

  • Participate and ensure cleanliness in trash detail of your assigned area in camp during "all camp cleanup".

  • Be available and flexible to provide support and fill in at any area of the day camp as needed.

  • Assistants are encouraged to redirect participants if their behavior warrants, but may not discipline or be responsible for discipline.

  • Report any concerns or issues with a participant to the Camp Director or Market Theatre Staff.

  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests as well as your own health concerns to your supervisor.

  • Follow all staff policies and procedures at all times especially those related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.

  • Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.

  • Immediately report any camper-disclosed abuse or threat to the Camp Director and/or Market Theatre staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be a rising high school freshman or older

Preferred

  • Recreational experience in theatre classes, camps, or productions

Pay:

  • Rates:

    • $300 per week (30 hours*) for Team Leaders

    • $350 per week (30 hours*) for Production Team (Music Director, Choreographer, Asst. Director/Stage Manager)

  • Staff are paid at the end of the camp week

    *(plus minimal required prep/training time)

  • Arrive early or stay late on occasion for staff training, planning, or discussion.

  • Complete training as deemed necessary either in person or virtually.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and refrain from behavior that will affect the staff morale.

  • Assist Camp Production Team in maintaining program participant belongings in an orderly and clean fashion.

  • Participate and ensure cleanliness in trash detail of your assigned area in camp during "all camp cleanup".

  • Be available and flexible to provide support and fill in at any area of the day camp as needed.

  • Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests as well as your own health concerns to your supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must complete all child abuse prevention training.

  • Must pass a state background check conducted by Market Theatre

  • For Music Director, Choreographer, and Asst. Director/Stage Manager only: relevant experience required; please describe in your application what experience or skills you possess which make you a qualified candidate for the role(s)

Preferred

  • Knowledge or experience in afterschool, camp, childcare activities, and/or teaching.

  • Knowledge or experience in the field of theatre.
