OUR STORY
Mission
The Market Theatre Company connects and inspires our community by creating quality art, educational opportunities, and a vibrant community arts hub.
Values
We believe theatre has the power to better our community by inspiring empathy and giving artists, audiences, and students alike the ability to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
In this increasingly digital age, the theatre is a safe space where people from all walks of life come together as a community.
The arts are for everyone. Market Theatre is committed to creating accessible theatre through both affordable and free performances.
We believe everyone can use their unique talents to make a tangible difference in our community, which is why we partner with local charities each year for our 24 Hour Musical fundraiser.
We are passionate about giving youth challenging, exciting opportunities to engage with the arts. Exposure to and participation in theatre are proven to help children become confident, empathetic, well-rounded adults.
History
Market Theatre was founded in 2015 by Dalton Cole, Meghan Cole, Carlie Taylor, and Noah Taylor. The founders dreamed of opening a new theatre company for years. In April 2015, the Accelerate Anderson Downtown Challenge provided the perfect opportunity. The founders submitted their proposal for a then-untitled theatre company, and after several rounds of workshops, presentations, and competition, this unlikely theatre became one of three winning organizations. With the promise of a $12,000 startup grant, The Market Theatre Company was born!
After months of searching, planning, and hard work, The Market found its home at the Anderson Arts Center and launched its inaugural season with The Fantasticks in February 2016.
Market Theatre now offers a year-round mainstage season, including the annual 24 Hour Musical, free Shakespeare in the Park, theatre for youth productions, award-winning plays, classic musicals, and bold, unexpected productions.
